3D-Printable High-Temperature Anisotropic Magnetic Composite

Description:

This innovative composite material integrates polyamide 4.6 (PA 4.6) with strontium ferrite magnetic powders, enabling extrusion-based additive manufacturing of anisotropic magnets that maintain magnetic properties up to 175°C. Developed through twin-screw extrusion compounding, the process aligns magnetic particles and enhances mechanical strength while offering a rare-earth-free alternative to traditional sintered magnets.

Key Advantages:

  • High thermal stability suitable for applications up to 175°C.
  • Enhanced magnetic anisotropy through aligned particle extrusion.
  • Improved tensile and flexural strength via ball-milled magnetic powder integration.
  • Cost-effective and supply resilient compared to rare-earth magnet materials.
  • Compatibility with extrusion-based 3D printing manufacturing methods.

Problems Solved:

  • Limited thermal stability of traditional polymer magnets.
  • Dependence on rare-earth materials prone to supply fluctuations and high cost.
  • Lack of additive manufacturing-compatible anisotropic magnetic composites.
  • Mechanical degradation due to poor interfacial bonding in composites.

Market Applications:

  • High-performance electric motors and generators operating at elevated temperatures.
  • Additive manufacturing of custom magnetic components for automotive and aerospace.
  • Rotating electrical machine parts requiring anisotropic magnetic properties.
  • Replacement for rare-earth permanent magnets in cost-sensitive and supply-constrained markets.
