BAPS is a sustainable technology composed of a porous concrete structure embedded with biochar derived from waste biomass and inoculated with a consortium of microorganisms. This combination facilitates biosorption, biotransformation, and biodegradation of pollutants found in urban runoff water. The biochar is produced from pyrolyzed invasive weeds and agricultural waste, then blended with Portland cement to create pervious concrete blocks. Bacterial biofilms formed within the blocks enhance contaminant removal, targeting pollutants such as E. coli, organic compounds, nitrates, and phosphates. The technology provides a novel approach to minimizing pollution and erosion through environmental remediation.
